Recession or Depression

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

As pen meets paper, the entire world is struggling to break free from a terrible economic recession, the causes of which will be debated for decades, but which surely include greed and dishonesty. Continue reading

“One Thing Happens to All”

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

Three famous entertainers died in America this week; Ed McMahon (86), Farrah Fawcett (62) and Michael Jackson (50). Although they had earned millions and millions of dollars over the course of their careers, their money did not prevent their deaths. Which brings us to our point; we must live for the time that we will die. Continue reading

Famous Stars and Jesus

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

This past Thursday, the King of Pop Music, Michael Jackson, suddenly passed away and also actress Farrah Fawcett, the native born Texan, after a three year bout with cancer. But Michael had many problems including: being divorced twice, pornography, many charges of molesting children, addiction to pain killing drugs, conversion to Islam, etc. Farrah was also a stumbling block to many people: men lusted after her in the swimsuit photo and later on in Playboy magazine. She also was divorced and lived in a sexually immoral relationship. In contrast, Jesus Christ didn’t have any of these problems.

In this sermon, we will study these dangers that we face, demonstrate how Jesus overcame them, and make application to our lives.

Sinful Fathers

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

Fatherhood is in trouble. We cannot sit idly by while another generation of kids grows into adulthood, half of them not knowing what it is like to have a father in the home! Continue reading

Real Men

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

Many males in this country do not know what it means to be a real man. More than one-third of all newborns in America will grow up without a father in the house. Even if they have a father at home, many are not a good role model to their son. The world’s idea of a real man today is a beer drinking, pot smoking, skirt chasing, bed hopping, gambling man with tattoos, and earrings.

God’s ways and thoughts are much higher than man’s ways and thoughts of what a real man is. (Isaiah 55:8-9)

Let us study what God reveals about what it means to be “real men”!

The Mission of the Church

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

Some think the church is the…

  • building
  • place to get a secular education
  • place to socialize (make new friends)
  • place to enjoy recreation (Gym)
  • place to eat
  • place that will provide for all my needs

But is that what the Bible teaches? It was built and purchased by the blood of Jesus for the eternal purpose of saving souls. (Eph. 3:11; Matthew 16:18; Acts 20:28)

Sentence Sermons

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

You are an influence, whether you are aware of it or not, either for good or evil.

What you are going to be tomorrow, you are becoming today.

You cannot keep your shoes shined if you continually walk in the mud.

The devil is willing for a man to preach the truth as long as he doesn’t practice it.

Easy street and the straight and narrow path do not intersect.

Christians should be humbly grateful instead of grumbly hateful.

A little man doesn’t really know how little he is.

Common sense is about the most uncommon thing there is.

How Bad is Hell?

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

If you didn’t get up in the morning, how do you think you would feel? The rich man (Luke 16:23) was able to “lift up his eyes” in “torments,” so we know there is consciousness after death. Would you go to heaven? Thinking about heaven is great, but it is also beneficial to talk about hell every so often. Continue reading

Judges and Their Life Story

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

Now that President Obama has nominated Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court we are hearing a lot about her life story. It is indeed compelling and a tribute to her and her mother, and to this country that made such a life possible.

The question before us then, is to what extent should a judge’s life experiences impact their execution of justice according to the law? Continue reading

Why Abortion is Wrong

Sunday, June 7th, 2009

Abortion is a hotly debated topic today.

Our pro-abortion President stirred up much controversy when he accepted an invitation to speak at Notre Dame’s graduation recently.

Every year more babies die by abortion than all the wars Americans have died in our history.

About 22% of all pregnancies end in abortion.

An estimated 43% of all women will have at least 1 abortion by the time they are 45 years old.

This morning, we will give scriptural arguments on why abortion is wrong.
