Should You Drink Alcohol?

We have a great drug problem in America today.

Illegal drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, and heroine cause many problems but the most deadly drug is alcohol.

½ of all traffic fatalities are related to the abuse of alcohol. (NHTSA) 64% of adults drink in 2009. (Gallup Poll) There are about 14 million alcoholics.

We must study the Bible so that we might be approved to God and handle it accurately.

We live in a world where social drinking is accepted by over two‑thirds of our entire population. That segment also accepts just about any other kind of drinking. But social drinking has been elevated a few steps above ordinary honkey‑tonk or bar room drinking. No matter what name it is known by, drinking ethyl alcoholic beverages is a potential danger. Worthy of Trust

“The Day America Told the Truth” it reports:

  • 91% routinely lie about trivial matters.
  • 86% habitually lie to their parents.
  • 75% lie to their friends.
  • 73% lie to their brothers and sisters.
  • 69% lie to their spouses.

If you want people to trust you, submit yourself to the Lord’s teaching so that you will be protected from evil and worthy of trust.

Not to complain, but it is hot. Perhaps we were spoiled with a mild Spring. I am sure that we will survive, and the little shower we received on Thursday was nice, but it will be great to get some real relief.

Emotions or Reason

If our choices are determined by our emotions, we will sin and die. (Proverbs 14:12; James 1:13-16)

But God wants everyone to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:3-4)

Our reason must rule over our emotions based on God’s word or we will suffer the eternal consequences.

Temptation: We Can Overcome It

Americans are deluged daily with headlines of sex scandals, murders, robberies, and so when millions of people gossip, lie, or swear it seems to minor in comparison.

Even if people are caught red-handed in sin they may argue, “I can’t help it” or shift the blame to others like Adam and Eve did.

Others are deceived into thinking that temptation is impossible to overcome.

In this lesson, we will examine this passage and learn how we can overcome temptation.

Freedom in Christ

Yesterday, Americans celebrated freedom.

Thomas Jefferson wrote in the Declaration of Independence, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

As Christians, we have freedom in Christ as the apostle Paul said, “It was for freedom that Christ set us free”.

In this lesson, we will study what freedom in Christ is and what it is not.
