Characteristics of Bible Miracles

Sunday, June 26th, 2011

Many people believe that miracles are happening every day (babies born, saved from injury or death by unexplainable means, healed from cancer, incurable disease, terminal illness, etc).

Those who are poor, uneducated, or desperate for a cure for what ails them will seek out “faith healers” to get well.

In this study this morning, we want to contrast the true Bible miracles using the acronym for SIGNS with the false miracles of man.

A.O.P.P.S.

Peer pressure is a subject that is always talked about but is often dismissed as outdated and useless in real world applications. Whenever we talk about peer pressure we inevitably bring up alcohol, pre‑marital sex, or drugs. These are the top three in no particular order. Additionally we tend to only make an application of peer pressure to those who are younger. Teenagers seem to be our prime target of peer pressure lessons. Well guess what, peer pressure doesn’t end at twenty but will only increase as we continue to age.

Adult On‑Set Peer Pressure Syndrome is a condition that affects all adults. It will manifest itself in different ways, but it should be noted that we are all susceptible to A.O.P.P.S. This is not something that… Continue reading

Duties of Fathers or What Fathers Owe their Children

Sunday, June 19th, 2011

by Robert E. Speer

"And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture (training — NKJV; discipline-NASB) and admonition (instruction- NASB) of the Lord" (Eph. 6:4, KJV).

Joshua said, "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord" (Josh. 24:15). He did not say his house would serve the Lord if his wife and/ or children did not complain too much about it, or if the family was not too busy. Joshua spoke with the resolve needed by fathers today. He spoke as a spiritual leader of his household, ready and willing to fulfill his duty.

Solomon said, "Train up a child in the way he should go" (Prov. 22:6). God spoke of Abraham, saying, "I know him, that he will… Continue reading

"O Lord, Give Us Fathers"

Sunday, June 19th, 2011

by Joe R. Price http://bibleanswer.com

Father’s Day began in America around 1910. Most credit “Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington, whose father, a Civil War veteran, raised her and her five siblings after their mother died in childbirth” for beginning its observance (“Father’s Day,” History.com). Father’s Day was a religious holiday before being commercialized by greeting cards and gifts. It became a national holiday in 1966, and in 1972 the third Sunday of June was officially designated Father’s Day.

The Bible teaches the value of fathers. Far more than mere progenitors, fathers shape future generations and thus, nations and the world (not to mention churches). Their value cannot be overstated. We thank God for the gift of godly fathers and ask Him to continue to bless us with faithful… Continue reading

The Miraculous Gifts of the Holy Spirit

Sunday, June 12th, 2011

By Heath Rogers

There are individuals in the religious world today who claim to possess the miraculous gifts of the Holy Spirit. Religious programs portray televangelists speaking in tongues and healing the sick. However, excitement over these gifts is no longer limited to “charismatic” churches. In recent years, I have heard members of several different mainstream denominations claim to have the ability to speak in tongues.

No one can deny that the apostles and some other Christians in the New Testament possessed the ability to perform miracles. The question that we will address in this article is whether or not the Bible teaches that these same gifts exist today?

The Miraculous Gifts of the Holy Spirit Identified and Explained

Paul devoted three chapters of his first epistle to the church… Continue reading
