It’s a Scam

The Devil Wants to Steal Your Treasure

We aren’t giving you consumer warnings just to protect you from scams but to warn you that in a similar way the devil has scams that he uses on us.

Jesus said, “The thief has come to steal, kill, and destroy. I have come that they might have life and have it more abundantly” (John 10:10)

The devil is like a thief in that he wants to steal away these treasures in heaven through Christ (Eph. 2:7) and he counts on your being naïve, gullible, or greedy so that you will submit to do his will.

Let us put on God’s armor so that… Continue reading

Keys to a Successful and Happy Marriage

Sunday, November 18th, 2012

By Stan Cox

For years the divorce rate in America has been at the 50% mark. While the rate is lower among members of the Lord’s church, it is still common to see marriages fail. There are a number of reasons why it happens. In the case of each failed marriage there is sin. The husband, or wife, or both, are living in a rebellious state before God. Such unfaithfulness leads to the dissolution of the marriage bond. The problem may be marital infidelity, pride, selfishness or dishonesty, but sin is present.

The simplest answer when seeking a cure for marital discord is to live faithfully before God. If a husband and wife are living righteously, their marriage will be successful and happy. However, it is necessary to explain what… Continue reading

Lying

Sunday, November 18th, 2012

by Kyle Campbell

We should be holy as our Father in heaven is holy (1 Peter 1:16). There are so many different characteristics of God, but this short article will address honesty.

It is by revelation that we know that God cannot lie (Numbers 23:19; Titus 1:2; Hebrews 6:18). On the other hand, that same revelation tells us that Satan is the father of lies (John 8:44). To me, the most chilling description of lying occurred when the apostle Paul said that lying is “contrary to sound doctrine” (1 Timothy 1:10). In the context, those who lie were grouped with “the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane.”

I’ve had people, even members of the church, lie to my face, and I knew they… Continue reading

The Noble Bereans

Sunday, November 11th, 2012

“These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so” (Acts 17:11). Today there are many different aids to Bible study. But in spite of more help than ever at our fingertips, many Christians are ignorant of the content and teachings of God’s word! According to Acts 17:11, the Bereans were “more noble” than the Thessalonian Jews because of their attitude toward the scriptures. The Bereans were true students of the word of God and we need to learn what made them such good students.

First, they received the word with all readiness of mind. There appears to be a lack of listening going on today. The people in the pews… Continue reading

King of Kings

Sunday, November 11th, 2012

by David Weaks

The Bible teaches us that government exists by the authority of God (Romans 13:1-10), and that citizens are to submit themselves to the government (vs. 1; 1 Peter 2:13). But, the Bible also teaches that there is a King who is King of kings and Lord of lords (Revelation 17:14; 19:16). His power is supreme, and the term of his power is for all time. His name is Jesus.

Men who govern any nation are flawed men, and their power is limited. They serve their terms in office, and then their term ends. While earthly rulers would like to think otherwise, their impact on the world is temporary and limited. In fact, their power is over the minute their predecessors assume the office.

As hard as it… Continue reading
