Real Things

Sunday, February 24th, 2013

by Joe R. Price

Some of you remember Coca‑Cola’s advertising slogan that told us Coke is “the real thing”. (I am definitely dating myself here!)

Real things endure; they have authenticity, substance, value and character. Counterfeits are forged, fake, fraudulent and deceptive; they do not last.

The apostle Paul possessed genuine faith in Christ. He suffered much in his life as “a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles” (2 Tim. 1:11‑12; Acts 9:16). Yet, confidently Paul said, “nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day” (2 Tim. 1:12).

His declaration of faith assures us of several real things:

1) God is real (“I know whom… Continue reading

God Has Spoken

Sunday, February 17th, 2013

by Joe R. Price

Many people believe God directly speaks to them. Some claim to be prophets. But, most are common folks who have had some experience they attribute to direct, divine communication; a wisp of the clouds, a deep yearning within during an intense moment of joy or despair – all these and more are interpreted as God’s voice – comforting, warning or encouraging the soul.

God Speaks

It does little good to deny an event really happened in the life of the person claiming to have heard the voice of God. Something happened. It is a subjective event and real to the person absorbed in the experience. The real question is this: Was the event truly God speaking to the person? Or, are there other explanations for the… Continue reading

Had Any Lemons Lately?

Monday, February 11th, 2013

This is the Sunday morning sermon by Steve Locklair.

Audio Powerpoint

We’ve all seen little kids get their first taste of something bitter (lemons, pickles, etc) and it seems funny.

But it isn’t pretty, cute or funny when that face is on an adult who isn’t eating lemons!

When you think of tasting something “bitter”, it brings to mind the Israelites.… Continue reading

A Silly Season

Sunday, February 10th, 2013

By Ed Bragwell

"Ephraim also is like a silly dove, without sense‑They call to Egypt, They go to Assyria. (Hosea 7:11 NKJV)

Ephraim (northern kingdom of Israel) is said to be acting like a silly dove. How so, by looking to Egypt and Assyria for their safety and security, rather than God.

From what I am hearing from all over we are in the midst of a SILLY SEASON in the church (spiritual Israel). Instead of intelligently or sensibly looking to God’s word for knowledge and security many are turning to the spiritual Egypts and Assyrias (the latest fads among denominational devotional writers and speakers) for spiritual guidance rather than serious sensible Bible study. THE RESULT IS A BUNCH OF SILLINESS. We hear of Bible classes provided by the church… Continue reading

Out of Wedlock Births – The New Normal?

Sunday, February 10th, 2013

By David Dann

Long ago the psalmist wrote of the pain of rejecting God’s standard, saying, “Rivers of water run down from my eyes, because men do not keep Your law” (Psa. 119:136). A recent news article published in the New York Times, entitled, “For Women Under 30, Most Births Occur Outside Marriage,” reports the following:

It used to be called illegitimacy. Now it is the new normal. After steadily rising for five decades, the share of children born to unmarried women has crossed a threshold: more than half of births to American women under 30 occur outside marriage (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/18/us/ for-women-under-30-most-births-occuroutside-marriage.html? _r=2&pagewanted=1&hp).

What are we to think of these trends? Consider a biblical response to the rise in out-ofwedlock births and the perception that such a condition is the… Continue reading

The Book of Philippians

The Book of Philippians audio

Paul wrote a letter for the Philippians to hear. He was in prison in Rome, and it is very clear. Even tho’ he was in chains The simple fact still remains That some Christians preached the gospel without fear.

So "rejoice in the Lord," said the apostle Paul. With Jesus strengthening me, yes, I can do all. Paul encouraged all of us To have the attitude of Jesus Who left heaven, humbled himself and died for all. by Bettye Locklair 2013… Continue reading
